Night and Light and Edge Effects

For this week's edits we had to take pictures at night using light and add some sort of border to them. The first picture is a burned border and the second picture is a flexible vignette.

Bannack Grunge!!

So on Friday, May 15, we went on a Photo Excursion to Bannack, Montana. We spent the whole day taking pictures. Here are some of my edits.

This is the original image. It is of the layers of wallpaper which were added to as the years went by. The tour guide affectionately called those layers of wallpaper "layers of life". I adjusted the levels, added some effects, and added some text to get the next picture.
The finished effect

This shot is a picture of Hotel Meade. I did an overlay blending mode with a texture shot I took of some faux bricks. I got some grunge font and blended it with 'screen' blend.

Flora and Fauna

1. Yellow Flower: 5/9/09: Rexburg: f/5.6: 1/400: Sony DSC H50
2. Temple Flowers: 5/9/09: Rexburg: f/5.6: 1/800: Sony DSC H50
3. Ladybug: 5/9/09: Rexburg: f/5.6: 1/400: Sony DSC H50
These shots were a lot of fun. The picture with the ladybug was one of those perfect moments when you are so glad to have a camera in hand for that specific moment! The flower ones were a lot of fun to shoot as well. This definitely made me more aware of the beautiful things around me!

Adjustment Layers

For this picture, I added an adjustment layer and mask to change the image to black and white. I then used a brush to add color to the flowers.

High Dynamic Range: After!

For this week's project, I took 3 different pictures with 3 different exposures. Then I used PhotoMatix to merge them all and get the best feature from each one into one to create a High Dynamic Range. Here's the finished product!

High Dynamic Range: Before

So our project for this week was High Dynamic Range. We had to take 3 different pictures at 3 different levels of exposure and then combine them into one with the best features of each one. Here are the original 3 pictures and in the next post I'll show what they look like when they've been combined.
